We would like to invite you to become involved in the exciting Lammas project which we are part of.

This autumn we will, with eight other families and individuals, buy a plot of land in Pembrokeshire, SW Wales. It is be part of what will be Wales' first self build eco-village. Each family will buy a 5 acre plot for the first phase of the village. We will have planning permission to build on the plot under Pembrokeshire's new planning guidance for low impact development which ties us to strict environmental best practice and working the land for our basic livelihood. This opportunity to live simply and with ecological integrity is unprecidented under British planning law.

This very exciting planning opportunity is open throughout the county to anyone. It is also not too late to join the second phase of the eco-village with plots will be up for grabs in 2-5 years time.

We invite you to get involved in this exciting project in the following two ways:

Investing
Would you like to make an ethical investment in true sustainability? We have launched a share issue in Lammas, the organisation set up to launch this ecovillage project and similar projects elsewhere. The funds raised from the share issue will help make both phases of this ecovillage a reality and to start similar projects elsewhere to make these opportunities available for everyone.

Please click here and buy a share now through the Lammas website.

Getting your hands dirty
Do you fancy making your own home along these lines but want to have a bit of hands on experience. We would like to invite you to join us in our future building projects. Come along, you give us a hand and we'll teach you some methods and tricks for design and construction in the low impact, permaculture style. Not to mention plenty of good food and good fun. In addition to building there will be similar opportunites to help us setting up permaculture gardens and forest gardens and to learn about many other aspects of self-sufficient living. There will also be opportunities to get involved with other plots and communal facilities of the village including sustainable woodland management, renewable power systems, aquaculture and the village hub building.

Out current building plan (subject to change) is as follows:

All going well, next spring/summer (2008) we will make a small, simple, straw bale, reciprocal roofed roundhouse. This will be our home for the first winter. The following summer (2009) we plan to be building a larger and more sophisticated house which will be built over two years.

The time scale of this year's building has been delayed a little from our initial hopes. It is inevitably along process but our application is now in and we are hoping for a decision in November. This should mean that we will have plenty of time to sort things out for a spring start in 2008. To any of our friends who has been watching this site and hoping to start this summer, so was I and apologies for the delay.

Once we get going there will be ongoing building opportunities for three years or more. You will be very welcome to come for as much or as little of the process as you like. Whilst you are with us you will probably have to camp, as we will be doing, although we will have ample covered space for cooking, eating and relaxing. We will provide food and there will be no costs for your visit. We may be able to provide camping kit if you are unable to bring your own.

The first building will be an ideal opportunity in that we will cover all the stages quickly, including foundations, straw baling, reciprocal roof and turf roofing. We will work together on the building and I will teach you the techniques involved. We will also talk about other building methods and approaches to design and planning with particular emphasis on permaculture design. In fact we can talk about anything you like.

Whilst you visit there will be other building projects going on in the eco-village including the construction of a community hub building. These projects will provide an opportunity to see and have a go at other building techniques.
